Mike Voyageur

My name is Mike Voyageur, son of Mark Voyageur and grandson of Alice Voyageur. I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta for most of my life. I moved to Hinton, Alberta with my granny for the last three years of high school where I graduated. Summers growing up I would spend with my granny in Fort Chipewyan where I worked in her restaurant. She taught me hard work and dedication.

I moved to Fort McMurray in 2003 where my cousin Tina introduced me to the Alberta Aboriginal Apprenticeship program and that is where I got into the heavy duty mechanics trade. This is an amazing program to introduce Aboriginals into the trades in Fort McMurray. I worked in the trades for 15 years before starting my own business.

Three years ago, I opened up my own company named Voyageur. I currently own one service truck and am in the process of developing another service truck with the help and guidance of knowledgeable people. I employ the best in their field to help me along the way. Without their help I wouldn’t be where I am. I strive every day to expand my business and to make sure I can give my kids the best possible future.

I am subcontracted through Fort Mckay Group of Companies where I have been able to get other family members employed. I am trying to get young people from our Nation the opportunity to get into a trade and further their careers.
